She also sings the compositions of Mohammed Abdel Wahab and his brother Farid al-Atrash, a rising star musician in his own right. Her voice is one of the few female voices in the Arab music world that can seriously compete with Umm Kulthum, considered one of the most popular singers in the Arab world in the 20th century. His mysterious death in a car accident shocked the public. Journalists are spreading rumors about his turbulent personal life and the alleged role of spy during WWII.
